This compact ADU was designed as an excercise in compact and sustainable infill in a historic Tucson, AZ neighborhood. The residence is powered by solar panels, collects rain, is hyper insulated to maintain comfort in the desert climate, and is located on a bicycle boulevard minutes from groceries, cafes, and downtown.
As the structure is situated in a dense neighborhood, views were limited to control and idealize the experience of being in the guesthouse. Four main apertures create controlled views and allow light into the space. Each aperture serving a different function throughout the day and therefore taking on a different form or strategy.
