Drachman ADU
A space, simple in form and function, that acts as a canvas for the varied light and shadow play of the Sonoran desert, using raw materials and uncomplicated construction methods to meet a need without sacrificing beauty and tranquility.
Building a small space on a tight lot and keeping the use somewhat flexible requires juggling of various needs and restrictions and finding the proper balance in the compromise. As architects, we’ve worked on multi-million dollar homes in vast landscapes and the struggles to make those successful are real, but the goal of building small for less cost and still creating something poetic has been very rewarding, and the experience with the owner and the craftspeople making the space a much more intimate process.
