Faun Salon
The design for the salon was based on the principals of materiality, patina, and tactility. Faun is focused on a holistic, natural, and artistic approach to services. Working as a craftswoman, Anna Jo considers each interaction with her clients a moment of connection and for them to leave feeling better than when they arrived. Given the intimate and hands-on nature of her services, the elements of the salon were to have these same qualities – highly haptic, holistic, and custom to the space. We worked with local artisans from the Tucson community to produce unique and one-of-a-kind pieces for the project. The plaster on the walls is a custom color, the wood reclaimed from an old school in Tucson still bears the marks of time, custom colored tiles from a local tile maker and architect designed and fabricated wall sconces and linen pendant lights.
The existing space presented several challenges in that it had been layered upon with many materials and ideas over the years by previous tenants. We stripped back the walls to simplify and bring a sense of contemplation to the salon. The surrounding Mercado is bustling with activity, we wanted to contrast that which was outside with a quiet serene atmosphere.
