Territorial

Paring back to just the essentials, our treatment of this 1941 dwelling is a lesson in restraint. Designed by prominent midcentury designer and builder John Joynt in 1941, this Tucson territorial-style home had retained much of its original charm. An efficient floor plan with a strong indoor/outdoor connection, its built-in shelves, beamed ceilings, concrete floors, and brick walls had all remained in place.

We were drawn to the home’s vernacular charm, the mass walls, the even light, and the connection to the exterior. We felt we could bring back the aesthetic that once existed in the house, and complement it with a modern update.
